Principal's Announcements
SOARING EAGLES

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! We have had a super beginning this year!  We have new staff members which include a full time secretary, Ms. Vogel,  and 2 new guidance counselors, Ms. Kennedy, full-time and Ms. Howard, part-time.  We are also very excited about our new ART teacher, Ms. Hearn.  When you visit the school you will see that our walls are already covered with the wonderful artwork of our children.

In the coming weeks you should hear your children talking about the standards they are learning in class. They will be conferencing with teachers to set individual goals.  These first few weeks we will spend time testing to find out students strengths and weaknesses.  They should be reading as much as possible so that we can meet the goal of every child reading 1,000, 000 words or 25 books this year.  We will have a kick off for the 25 book campaign the end of September.

Our major, school-wide focus this year will be MATH!  We will target math as one major area for improvement. We will have Math Night in October to share ideas on how you can help your child learn Math concepts through eveyday activities. In November we will have a couple of evenings for you to come in and get ideas for planning your child's Science Fair project.

Teachers and administration will continue professional training in: America's Choice Implementation of Math and Literacy in support of instruction of the GA Performance Standards, Math Workshops, and Schoolwide Character  Development.

You may have noticed gentlemen outside of the school with equipment, surveying the land.  They are preparing for the construction of the new wing and gym which will be added to the school.  Construction will begin January 2010.  Stop by the school and see a copy of the planned construction.  It will be posted outside of the main office.

We are in the process of completing our school calendar for the year.  When it is completed you will be able to visit the website and keep abreast of the activities that we have planned for the school community this year. I will also continue to contact you through the Global Connect phone system.  If you are not getting the calls please contact my secretary Ms. Vogel.  We will make sure that your number gets into the system.  If your numbers change please get that information to the secretary, and your child's teacher(s), as soon as possible.

The support you have already provided has been unbelieveable!  Everyday we have parents helping in the Media Center, classrooms, through PTA~ Mrs. Amos, PTA President, and the Volunteer Program, spearheaded by Mrs. Horoho. Thank you to parents for your generous donations of paper, tissue and hand sanitizer.

We wiil continue to partner with our adopters here on post to provide those academic opportunities which support student learning.  We look forward to working with: Mr. and Mrs. Capps, Mr. Malcolm, Huddle House, Ms. Elderidge, Ft. Gordon Credit Union, Col. and Mrs. Clark, Ms. Crowder, CYS, Ms. Francis, ACS, Ms. Drinnen, School Liaison, the 63rd ANOCH and the 35th Battalion.

We welcome your ideas and support to ensure that our students get the best education possible and that Freedom Park, Ft. Gordon's School, becomes the number one school in GA!

BE SURE YOUR CHILDREN ARE READING!!!  1st-2nd  graders work on Math facts addition and subtraction;  3rd graders -multiplication facts; 4th graders multiplication and division facts. Go to the recommended websites.

I know that some of you get orders for deployment at unusual times. If you do have an emergency and need me my cell phone number is 706-627-6781. Our RCSS School Liaison is Melissa Drinnen.  Her number is 706-791-7270.
